Course Outline

  • Discussion and Q&A: Reflect on how change has impacted your organization over the past two years. What were the successes, and where were the failures?
  • Practice: Analyze a case study of a failed change initiative at a multinational corporation to identify the root causes of resistance and overlooked opportunities.
  • Expansion: Participants will be tasked with mapping recent changes in their organizations using the ADKAR model for subsequent review.

Module 2 – Constructing the Business Case for Change

  • Lecture: Developing a compelling vision that aligns change with strategic objectives. This includes methods for measuring the ROI of change initiatives.
  • Discussion and Q&A: What are the critical drivers making change urgent in your industry at this moment?
  • Practice: A group activity to draft a one-page “Change Charter” for a hypothetical merger scenario, outlining the vision, objectives, and key benefits.
  • Expansion: Participants are encouraged to refine their real-world change charters after the session by incorporating stakeholder feedback.

Module 3 – Leading People Through Change

  • Lecture: The psychology of change, focusing on understanding resistance, emotional responses, and motivation. Strategies for building trust and engagement are also covered.
  • Discussion and Q&A: Share instances of resistance you have faced in your leadership role and describe how you managed them.
  • Practice: A role-play scenario where managers must communicate a significant policy change to a skeptical senior team.
  • Expansion: Participants are advised to journal about the communication styles used in change scenarios and to test alternative approaches.

Module 4 – Stakeholder Mapping and Influence

  • Lecture: Techniques for identifying stakeholders, analyzing their influence and interest levels, and creating tailored engagement strategies.
  • Discussion and Q&A: Which stakeholder group is most challenging to engage in your organization, and why?
  • Practice: Participants will create a stakeholder influence map for an organizational digital transformation project.
  • Expansion: It is suggested that stakeholders conduct interviews post-training to validate assumptions and refine influence strategies.

Module 5 – Sustaining and Embedding Change

  • Lecture: Institutionalizing change through governance, performance metrics, and cultural alignment, with a focus on preventing regression to old habits.
  • Discussion and Q&A: What methods do you use to ensure new behaviors are maintained beyond the initial implementation phase?
  • Practice: Teams will design a 90-day sustainment plan for a completed change initiative, including reinforcement activities and success indicators.
  • Expansion: Participants are assigned to implement one sustainment technique within their own teams within the following month.

Module 6 – Integrating Learning into Real Projects

  • Lecture: Synthesizing the day’s learning into actionable steps.
  • Discussion and Q&A: Which tools and strategies from today’s session can be applied immediately in your role?
  • Practice: Participants will draft a personal action plan for an upcoming or current change initiative, detailing next steps, stakeholder actions, and success measures.
  • Expansion: Peer accountability partnerships are recommended to review progress at 30, 60, and 90 days post-training.

Requirements

  • A minimum of two years in a managerial or leadership capacity.
  • Prior experience in directing teams or overseeing projects.
  • A foundational understanding of organizational strategy and operational workflows.
  • Engagement with an active or forthcoming organizational change initiative is recommended to facilitate direct application during practical exercises.
